intentions
Intentions takes a humorous look at the natural voyeurism and slightly invasive experience of living in very close proximity to complete strangers when camping
This fun work has been especially designed for installation at festivals. A number of regular dome tents are surreptitiously erected throughout the camping areas at the festival. They're nothing special by day but come to life at night with life size shadows cast against their walls.
Each tent contains a battery operated torch and small cardboard silhouette of a person. Carefully arranging the torch and stencil creates a full size shadowy scene. It's up to passers-by to decide what's going on. Are the occupants dressing or undressing? Is it all entirely innocent? What can you actually see?
It's fascinating to watch people's responses. Of course, they're surprised to see something that wasn't there when they left their tent for the evening. Nearly everyone passing by turns their heads or stops for a second glance. Many have to look for quite some time before realising it's not real!
The work was installed at The Big Chill 2010, No Direction Home 2012 and Beacons 2013.
