slyncstagram
The Slyncstagram project worked with young women from the SLYNCS group in Blackburn to create a document of their town as they saw it. It is a digital exploration of Blackburn seen through the mobile phones of the young people who live there.
Members of SLYNCS used their mobile phones to capture routes through their localities and record the quirks that define the character of these places and make them unique. Together we explored play and play spaces, alleyways, backstreets and shortcuts, street architecture and religious buildings.
The group edited and classified their photos. Together we designed a geodesic dome containing tablet computers to display the in the same digital format in which they were captured. The tablets use WiFi to link to a central controller which allows the participants presenting the work to control what's displayed on the screens using their own mobile phones and so curate, in real time, the experiences they are sharing with their audience.
The work was presented at Blackburn Festival 2014, The Diwali Mela at Manchester Town Hall and Holy Trinity Church, Blackburn.
Slyncstagram was developed and delivered in collaboration with Angela Davies.
